If you’re progressing quickly in Minecraft, then brewing potions is the next step of the journey. Potions are very helpful because they can help you weaken your enemies and heal yourself, along with plenty more effects. This is especially good in multiplayer, where you’re competing against your fellow Minecraft players. Here is a complete tutorial on making your first awkward potion, which can be used to make many more potions.
Materials needed beforehand: Crafting table, Furnace, Chest, at least iron armor and sword.
Part 1: Preparation of bottles.
Go to a beach area or near a body of water.
Mine at least three sand(you probably want quite a bit, depending on how many potions you want to make).
Go back to your base and put the sand into the furnace. This will smelt it into glass.
Once the glass is done smelting, craft the glass into bottles.
Now that you have the glass bottles, go to a lake or river.
Step 6(optional, can be saved for later):
Fill the bottles with water. If you want to save space in your chest, don’t fill the bottles with water just yet. Instead, you can keep the glass bottles in a stack, then fill them up when needed.
Part 2: Gathering Materials.
Make sure, before going to the Nether to gather materials, to have iron or diamond armor and weapons. There will be a lot of mobs in the Nether which will kill you unless you have enough gear.
Use obsidian to build a nether portal.
Light the portal with a flint and steel.
Go through the portal, and into the Nether. Once you reach the Nether, make sure you remember where your portal is so you can get back.
Look for a nether fortress.
Once you find it, walk around it until you find a nether wart “farm”. Break the nether warts and collect them.
Collect the soul sand, so you can build your own nether wart farm to grow the nether warts without having to return to the nether.
Walk around the fortress some more until you find a blaze spawner and blazes.
Kill these blazes, and collect the blaze rods that they drop.
Once you have a few blaze rods, return to your portal, and go back to the Overworld.
Part 3: Brewing the Awkward Potion.
Craft a brewing stand using three cobblestone and a blaze rod. Save the rest of the blaze rods for later; they can be used for other potions.
Place down the brewing stand in your base using right click.
The brewing stand has four slots. The three lower ones that have an outline are the places where you can put bottles. The top one is where you put your potion ingredients.
Put 1-3 water bottles into any of the lower slots.
Put a nether wart at the top. The potion should start brewing, indicated by the little bubbles.
Once they are done brewing, you can take out the finished awkward potions. They don’t do anything on their own, but can be brewed with other things to make different potions.
Say you want to make a potion of strength. To do so, craft the blaze rods into blaze powder.
Put the awkward potions into the lower slots of the brewing stand. Make sure you don’t use regular water bottles to make advanced potions, because this will just make mundane potions, which are useless.
Put a blaze powder into the top slot.
Once this is done brewing, you have a potion of strength!
